Elegant in Ethnic

When I was a little girl, I would see my mother decking herself up in a Saree, mesmerised and I would think ‘’Wow. When will I get to tie a Saree?’’

I cannot count the number of times I used to play around with dupattas, draping it around me haphazardly and showing it off with pride.

Even now, whenever I do tie a saree, I feel fab af. No wonder it’s called ‘’9 yards of elegance’’.

This is a quote that I swear by:

‘’ A Saree can never go wrong,

It only makes a girl prettier’’.  

 

The Story:

My friend’s wedding day arrived and all of us decided to dress in Kanjeevaram sarees like traditional South Indian girls.  

I loved the saree for many reasons. Since bright colours are totally my thing, this saree called out to me. With its hues of orange, pink, yellow and green, it added a lot of colour to my day (quite literally).

Since it’s a traditional silk piece, I opted for gold jewellery that was a wonderful mix of traditional and modern. The necklace has a contemporary design, embedded with rubies whereas the earpiece was old school with big, beautiful jhumkas adorned by the same stones. I love the engraving and detailing as well.

With this ensemble, I paired a bright pink and gold clutch with the same coloured wedge heels which complemented my outfit perfectly.

I opted for subtle make-up with winged liner, light kajal, pink lipstick and pink eye-shadow. The cherry on the cake was my tiny green bindi.

Overall, the look was perfect for a south indian day wedding: Bright, ethnic, colorful and elegant. Exactly the way I wanted it to be.
